This is an amazing film, supposedly made just 4 days before the 1906 earthquake. Shot with a 35 mm camera attached to the front of a street car traveling towards the Ferry Building on Market. It’s absolutely fascinating — the cars, clothing, electric street cars, pedestrians, horses, and of course, all the early buildings still standing. It’s also prior to crosswalks, pedestrian right of way laws, and sensibilities about u-turns! The film is 7 minutes long. According to the person who sent it to me, it was “lost” until recently…..somehow people seemed happier then than they are today……
