Are you currently taking Centrum, One-A-Day, Vi-Daylin or other economy-priced vitamins?   Do you experience constipation, diarrhea, or upset stomach?    The problem is that no “one-a-day” type vitamins are physically large enough to contain all the vitamins and minerals that you require on a daily basis.    They are missing key nutrients and the levels of the nutrients they do contain are so low that they not only become useless, but they can throw off your synergistic balance.   Some inexpensive vitamin/mineral formulations also contain fluoride, synthetic additives and fillers and most of the remaining ingredients are simply isolated vitamins.

For the most part, there are no vitamins and minerals that can work in isolation — their function is interdependent on complexes, or “families”, of nutrients normally found in nature, and One-A-Day vitamins are just a capsule full of isolated synthetic vitamins.

Whole food supplementation with vitamins & mineral complexes is the only effective way to ensure that all the essential interactions take place as found in nature and this is why high-quality multi vitamins and mineral supplements are usually needed — and why they are usually the most expensive.

One-A-Day multi vitamins, and other brands listed above, contain ingredients that are more than minimally bioavailable because they are mostly synthetic.    Bioavailability is a gauge of how much of a particular substance can be absorbed by your body. In nature, not all vitamins and minerals are alike and some are absorbed better than others.

If you have a deficiency in even one nutrient you can end up with serious health problems because they often work synergistically with other nutrients, minerals, enzymes and coenzymes.   One-A-Day multi vitamins lack many nutrients needed for various deficiencies and they do not contain enzymes for aiding digestion the way they are found in nature.

Certain nutrients will also act as antioxidant free radical scavengers.   Antioxidant vitamins have the power to counteract free radicals before cellular damage occurs.   Free radicals are highly reactive chemical substances in your body, usually from environmental toxin exposure, that if left unchecked can lead to premature aging and disease, such as cancer and heart disease.

Your body can manufacture some vitamins but many can’t be, so you must either get them from the foods you eat (which is almost impossible since nobody’s diet is complete), or increase your intake with dietary supplements.

Again, “economy” multi vitamins can’t help you in these areas.

You have to take some caution when it comes to choosing a brand of multi vitamins.   There is a wide degree of difference between cheaper synthetic dietary supplements used by a lot of manufacturers of “one-a-day” type vitamins and the more expensive natural complex ingredients which are based on nature’s blueprint.

throwing money down the drain imageAs mentioned earlier, because of the fact that vitamins work synergistically, it’s very important that scientists with the best credentials formulate the dietary supplements you use.   Many nutritional supplements available are for the most part just hastily formulated with no scientific reasoning causing many of the ingredients to end up canceling each other out, as in one-a-day type vitamins, or even to have harmful consequences.   In addition, multi vitamins that aren’t scientifically formulated generally have poor bioavailability, meaning that most of the ingredients will simply pass through your system with no benefit, so for every dollar you spend, you are throwing away a greater portion of your money “down the drain”, so to speak — so in reality, cheaper vitamins actually end up costing you MORE.

Some minerals, such as calcium, are packed away into the joints of your body if they are not chelated or bioavailable through digestion.    If you take the WRONG calcium product you can actually give yourself arthritis over a period of years.

You must choose a manufacturer that follows pharmaceutical GMP compliance, which is the highest standard possible otherwise you’re wasting your money and jeopardizing your health.

It comes down to this — you must take a high-quality, whole food complex multi vitamin daily, to remain healthy and there’s not much point in trying to take single nutrients if your body is lacking a balance of other essential nutrients.

Make an effort to drastically improve your health through the use of the best multi vitamins, because without good health what do you have?
